The Macquarie University Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research has been named the partner of choice in the 2GB Supports initiative for the month of June.

Launched last month, the program is designed to help drive awareness and raise funds for vital local and charitable organisations in Sydney.

Each month, 2GB will champion a different Sydney charity, spreading the word of critical community groups while helping to raise much needed funds to support their endeavours.

The program is part of a broader initiative from all of Nine’s talk radio stations and is underwritten by $1.6 million in airtime and production each year.

Luke Davis, content manager for 2GB, said: "For many years, our 2GB broadcasters and listeners have raised funds and championed the case for further research into MND - an insidious disease that affects the lives of many Australians. We're delighted to be able to support the incredible efforts of the team at the Macquarie University Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research as they work towards their vision of a world with no MND."

As the largest centre of its type in Australia, The Macquarie University Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research has a single focus: to find the causes of this cruel disease and develop therapies to cure it. MND is a terminal, rapidly progressing neurological disease. Every year in Australia around 800 people are diagnosed. Each day, two people lose their lives – as their families stand by, powerless to help. Motor Neuron Disease is underfunded for the impact it causes, and every dollar counts in this fight.
