Paul Bates has joined programmatic media company MiQ as Group Account Director for Victoria, effective Monday, 4 August 2025.

In the newly appointed role, Bates will lead the Victorian sales team and focus on growing client relationships across the state. He will report directly to Chris Freel, Chief Revenue Officer ANZ.

Bates brings more than 25 years of media and advertising experience to the role. His previous leadership positions include stints at REA Group, Yahoo7, Fairfax Media, and most recently as Commercial Director at Broadsheet Media. His career spans digital media, agency sales, and strategic partnerships across both Sydney and Melbourne.

Freel welcomed the appointment, saying: “Paul will be a fantastic addition to MiQ and I am delighted that he is joining to lead the Victorian sales team. He is an exceptional leader, trusted by agencies and clients, and an all-around great human!”

Bates joins MiQ at a pivotal time following the launch of Sigma, the company’s new AI-powered advertising platform built on what it describes as the world’s most connected data set. Sigma aims to centralise the programmatic ecosystem for more efficient and informed decision-making.

“I am delighted to be joining MiQ at what is a pivotal moment in a rapidly evolving market,” said Bates. “Working closely with our agency and client partners, I’m incredibly excited about delivering technology that connects the entire programmatic ecosystem in one place, enabling us to make smarter decisions at speed.”

He added that Sigma “fundamentally shifts how brands and advertisers can connect with consumers”, offering greater confidence in outcomes and a competitive edge for clients.
