Simon Bates has announced his latest role at Nine as Director of Social Media and Off-Platform, closely working with Stan, 9Now and the 9Network

Past experience

In his previous role at TikTok (ByteDance), Bate served as Head of Content. Announcing the move via LinkedIn post, Bates said it has been “an incredible chapter at TikTok, but it’s time for the next one.”

“Being part of ByteDance during such a hyper-growth phase was a genuinely unique experience. Constant momentum, massive scale, and no shortage of challenges,” Bates said.

He highlighted his achievements at TikTok, where he helped grow the AUNZ community to surpass 12 million users.

“Working alongside brilliant global teams, publisher partners, and creators shaping culture has been a career highlight.”

New role responsibilities

In his new role, Bates will spearhead a new Centre of Excellence within the Streaming & Broadcast (S&B) division.
