Radio announcer Bob Peters passes away aged 62

Radio announcer Bob Peters has passed away at the age of 62.

Peters was the announcer at 107.7 Triple M on the Central Coast of NSW, and also worked at SCA, ARN, and the Nine Network.

Peters, a lifelong devoted South Sydney Rabbitohs fan, was also a voice-over artist at Fox Sports and Network Ten.

Some of his career highlights included ground announcer at their home ground and as the announcer for the medal presentations for cycling, road and track, at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

At 45, he was ill with polycystic kidneys, a chronic illness that saw his kidneys failing to function and on dialysis every second day in hospital.

Peters was met with many complications during his illness including a number of golden staph infections. He even underwent preventative brain surgery for an aneurysm.

After a long and hard 10 years of waiting, he received the call he had been waiting for -  an organ transplant. 

Peters was able to regain his life back and returned to radio and the airwaves for a while. But just five years later, in January 2021, he was diagnosed with Renal Cell Cancer with Mets to the bone.

With the terminal cancer diagnosis last year, Peters made the heartbreaking decision to leave the airwaves and travel around Australia's west coast in an RV.

WSFM, where he also spent time as an announcer, shared a tribute on Twitter to remember of their late colleague from his younger years.

Peters is survived by his four children Jesse, Bianca, Jayden and Ashlee.

His funeral will be held at Mackay Family Funerals, Ourimbah, on Friday 24th at 1pm, followed by the wake at the Tall Timbers Hotel.
