Box Office: The Grinch and Spider-Man tussle for top spot
• Holiday season is kicking into gear with two family friendly films in top spot

The Australian box office enjoyed a good weekend, experiencing a 9% increase on the previous weekend bringing home $12.73m.
This was thanks in part to two animated hits The Grinch and, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse both cracking the two million dollar mark on their way to occupying the top two spots.
The other new entry this week is Andre Rieu’s Sydney Town Hall Concert – An Australian Celebration, with Mortal Engines and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald both dropping out of the top 5 this week.
#1 The Grinch $2.69m
After three weeks it has kept the momentum for the Christmas season as it remains in top spot. The re-imagining of the holiday classic starring Benedict Cumberbatch achieved a 9% increase on last weekend, and had an average of $7,039 across 383 screens for a total of $11.31m.
#2 Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse $2.60m

The web slinger’s first foray into big screen animation has started off well debuting in second spot averaging $6,192 on 421 screens.
#3 Bohemian Rhapsody $1.52m
After seven weeks the mega hit based on British rock band Queen is now the highest grossing biopic of all time and has brought its Australian total to $37.41m. After suffering only a 13% decrease on last weekend’s total it averaged $4,495 over 339 screens.
#4 Creed II $1.04m
Slipping down to third spot after three weeks, the continuation of the Rocky story starring Michael B Jordan has cracked the one million dollar mark for the third successive week. The heavyweight hit has generated an average of $4,103 across 255 screens to bring its Australian total to $7.21m.
#5 Andre Rieu’s Sydney Town Hall Concert – An Australian Celebration $727,384
The annual holiday classic marks its first week in theatres with a debut in the top five after scoring an average of $6,112 on 119 screens.
