Free Guy

This week the Australian box office made $3.86 million, up 37% from last week’s $2.83 million.

Taking the top spot again this week is The Suicide Squad, the standalone sequel (and soft reboot) to 2016’s Suicide Squad. This version was written and directed by James Gunn, of Guardians of the Galaxy fame. Original director David Ayer was set to return as director for a Suicide Squad sequel, but instead chose to develop a Gotham City Sirens film.

Joining the top five this week are Free Guy, a film about a bank teller who discovers he's actually a background player in a video game, and The Ice Road, about an ice driver who goes on a rescue mission over a frozen ocean to save the lives of trapped miners.

Dropping out of the top five this week are Black Widow and Old.

#1, The Suicide Squad, $1.26 million

The 10th film in the DC Cinematic Universe, in its second week The Suicide Squad averaged $4,811 over 261 screens. It’s made a total of $3.22 million to date.

#2, Free Guy, $1.21 million

Starring Ryan Reynolds and Taika Waititi, Free Guy has opened to a very successful weekend, pulling in an average of $4,959 over 243 screens and debuting to second place.
