Box Office: Jurassic World: Dominion soars to the top in first week

This weekend, the Australian box office made $23.7 million, up 35% on last week's $17.5 million.

In its first week on screens, Jurassic World: Dominion has topped the box office charts, grossing over $12 million. The film is the third sequel in the Jurassic World franchise and sixth instalment in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park series. The film stars an ensemble cast including Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Top Gun: Maverick dropped from first to second for the first time, grossing over $8.8 million, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fell from second to third. 

Animated comedy, The Bad Guys maintained its spot at #4, while Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has made a comeback jumping from eighth to fifth. Falling out of the top five this week is Vikram, which ranked seventh.

#1, Jurassic World: Dominion, $12.12 million

Directed by Colin Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael, Jurassic World: Dominion is the final film in the Jurassic World trilogy, and the conclusion to the storyline started in the original Jurassic Park trilogy. In its debut week, the film averaged $16,142 across 751 screens.

#2, Top Gun: Maverick, $8.85 million

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick averaged $13,731 across 645 screens this weekend. The action film has grossed over $45 million to date as Paramount Pictures faces a lawsuit for copyright infringement.

#3, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, $532,709

The sequel to Doctor Strange averaged $2,106 across 253 screens this weekend, making a total of $37.3 million to date. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film stars Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong alongside Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.

#4, The Bad Guys, $236,407

Animated crime comedy, The Bad Guys averaged $1,367 over 173 screens this weekend, making a total of $15.78 million to date. 

#5, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, $196,270

In its 11th week on screens, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 averaged  $1,190 across 165 screens, bringing in $22.47 million to date.
