Box Office: The Secrets of Dumbledore brings people back to the wizarding world

This weekend the Australian box office made $13.03 million, up 1% from last week’s $12.87 million.

Debuting to the top spot this week is the latest installment in the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.

Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful, dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world, but knows that he won't be able to stop him alone. As a result, he recruits magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead a team of wizards and witches as they try and prevent Grindelwald’s rise.

Dropping out of the top five this week is The Duke, a film that follows a 60-year-old taxi driver who steals Goya's portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London.

#1, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, $5.23 million

The wizarding world of Harry Potter is back, as the prequel debuts to the top of the box office. The Secrets of Dumbledore averaged $8,704 over 601 screens.

#2, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, $2.77 million

Sequel to the 2020 film Sonic The Hedgehog, the second film in the franchise averaged $6,264 over 442 screens this weekend. It has now made a total of $7.24 million in its second week.

#3, The Bad Guys, $1.58 million

Animated crime comedy, The Bad Guys averaged $4,826 over 327 screens in its second week of release. It’s now made a total of $4.36 million.

#4, Morbius, $947,227

Based on the Marvel Comics character, Morbius averaged $2,294 over 413 screens this weekend. Another film in its second week of release, it has made a total of $4,98 million.

#5, The Batman, $674,655

Still hanging around in the top five after six weeks of release, The Batman averaged $2,883 over 234 screens. The film has made a whopping total of $36.21 million.
