Fast and Furious 7 1200x600

After just its second weekend in cinemas, Fast And Furious 7 has managed to speed past $30m in total takings. Its second weekend earn was $7.71m with another impressive screen average of $15,212. No multiplex was going to bump this winner from their grid and the movie remained on 507 screens. After last weekend's opening the film now ranks #5 on biggest opening weekends in Australia. It ranks #2 in biggest opening weeks ever though with $22.27m, trailing only Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 with $29.33m in 2011. FF7 still has a way to go to crack the all-time top 10 in Australia though. It needs to make it to $46.08m to pass the earnings of The Dark Knight back in 2008 which sits at #10 on that list.

Cinemas are enjoying a bumper April with a second successive weekend over $20. Five other movies all did over $1m. The best of them was weekend three of Cinderella with $2.98m and a total to-date of $15.57m.

Home did $2.76m (total $13.25) while SpongeBob SquarePants did $1.53m (total $5.26m).

The biggest opening on the weekend was The Longest Ride in 220 cinemas. The romantic drama did $1.38m with a screen average of $6,286.

Other notable milestones on the chart this week include Insurgent passing the $10m mark during its fourth week, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel passing $15m in its seventh week and Kingsman: The Secret Service slowly running out of puff just short of $20m after 10 weeks.
