Brian Beaton posthumously awarded AIDC Stanley Hawes Award
Beaton's celebrated career spanned over 35 years
The Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) has announced the recipient of the 17th Stanley Hawes Award, given for outstanding contribution to the documentary sector in Australia.
Brian Beaton, documentary producer and executive producer with Perth-based production company Artemis International, is the posthumous recipient of this year’s honours, having passed in June 2016.
The award will be accepted on behalf of Beaton at AIDC 2017 by Artemis managing director Celia Tait and his older brother and fellow documentarian John Beaton, both of whom will provide the 2017 Stanley Hawes Oration.
Beaton's career spanned over 35 years, producing award-winning documentaries and factual programs for national and international markets. He founded Artemis in 1999 with business partner Celia Tait and produced many award-winning projects, including Saving Andrew Mallard, Shaun Micallef’s Stairway to Heaven, The Dreamhouse, Desperately Seeking Sheila and, with co-producer Serendipity Productions, seven seasons of Who Do You Think You Are?
