Box Office: Jurassic World smashes more records, Magic Mike XXL opens with $4.1m

 •  More Australian box office records this week for Jurassic World

It hasn't been the #1 movie for two weeks, but Jurassic World continues to smash Australian box office records. It took $2.74m on the weekend after a full week take of $3.6m. Total gross at the end of Sunday was $49.17m so far and will pass $50m this week. At the moment Jurassic World is #7 on the list of all-time biggest movies in Australia. If Jurassic World could scrape together another $3m it could become the third biggest movie ever in Australia, trailing only Avatar on $115m and Titanic on $57m.

Jurassic World already sits at #3 on biggest weekend of all time chart and then #8 on biggest week ever list.

Total box office over the weekend was $20.9m making if five successive weekends close to $20m or better. The top five movies all were showing on more than 400 screens and all took $2.7m or more.

Inside Out made it to the top of the chart for the first time in its fourth week of release with 4.31m school holiday dollars taking the film to a very impressive $25m.

Minions continues to perform well too as it sits at #2 again this week in its fourth week of release with a weekend take of $4.18m and a total to-date of $27.83m.

The only major release to get a wide opening was Magic Mike XXL which did $4.10m after an exhaustive promo tour with some of the key cast. The movie narrowly had the best screen average head of Inside Out and Minions with $10,226.

Terminator Genisys ranks #4 this week with $2.85m with its total after two weekends just over $10m.

Jurassic World sits at #5 still on just over 400 screens and a screen average just under $7,000.

Ted 2 is the last of the six movies taking over $1m this weekend, with $1.26m and a total so far just over $10m.

Madame Bovary, with Mia Wasikowska in the title role, was new this week too, but with a modest opening on 44 screens which earned the distributors $152,000.
