The election hype has given ABC a good week for Twitter engagement

Twitter users love sharing their opinions – fitting, then, that the one day all Australians get an opinion (Election Day) did the ABC favours on social. ABC TV's programming – notably Q&A, Four Corners and Insiders – generally does well on Twitter anyway, and saw a good week for engagements this week.

Tanya Plibersek on the Q&A preceding Election didn't do as well as Malcolm Turnbull's appearance on the program the week before (which saw 8.1k authors send 61.7k tweets), but still topped the list. ABC's live Election coverage – which topped the TV ratings, set an ABC record for seven hours on-air and ended in Leigh Sales telling Kerry O'Brien to "suck on that" – was the only network's to make the list, and the engagement related to the Game Of Thrones finale was up on last week.

In sport, beIN Sports 1's screening of England's embarrassing loss to Iceland in Euro 2016 held the top spot, with 5.7k authors sending out 11.0k tweets.
