ARIA Chart: Jessica Mauboy first indigenous artist to debut at #1

James Arthur has locked onto top spot for a second successive week with "Say You Won't Let Go".

The only new arrival in the top 10 is Bruno Mars with "24K Magic" which climbs from #12 to #9 in its second week.

Five artists debuted new material in the top 50:

#16 Little Mix with "Shout Out To My Ex" from forthcoming fourth album "Glory Days"
#18 Illy with "Catch 22" featuring Anne-Marie
#21 Maroon 5 with "Don't Wanna Know" featuring Kendrick Lamar

Albums

Another busy week on the album chart – five new albums debut in the top 10 while a total of 13 debut in the top 50.

After previously being one of the performers on the #1 album "The Sapphires Soundtrack" back in 2012, Jessica Mauboy now has her first #1 individual album success with songs from the TV series "The Secret Daughter". In doing so she becomes the first indigenous artist to debut at #1. The new album features both originals and covers. Mauboy's previous album best as a solo artist was with "Beautiful" which peaked at #3 in October 2013. Remarkably this is the 18th Australian #1 album this year.

Just missing a #1 is Hillsong Worship with "Let There Be Light" – the second album to make the top 50 for Hillsong Worship. A live album which was recorded in July 2016 in Sydney, "Let There Be Light" comes a year after "Open Heaven/River Wild" made it to #1.

Not far behind Hillsong Worship is Kings of Leon with their seventh album "WALLS". Their new album has some work to do if it wants to go #1, something their three previous albums all achieved in 2008, 2010 and 2013.

Also notching up a top 10 debut this week were Newcastle punk band Trophy Eyes with "Chemical Miracle", the band's second album, at #8.

Lisa Mitchell is also new in the top 10 with her first album in four years "Warriors". Her previous two albums have also been top 10 and "Warriors" will have to crack #5 or better to improve on "Wonder" at #6 in 2009 and "Bless This Mess" at #7 on 2012.

Other album action: INXS and their "The Very Best" compilation jumps from #45 to #21 on their 217th week on the chart.

Ed Sheeran's "X" has dropped out of the top 50 to #53 after 122 weeks as has Taylor Swift's "1989", down to #57 after two years on the chart or 104 weeks.

Exiting the top 10 in a hurry: We always report on the number of newcomers in the top 10. But the trip down can be a rapid one too. This week Alter Bridge dropped from #6 to #33 in the second week on the chart for "The Last Hero", OneRepublic dropped from #8 to #36 with "Oh My My" while Meshuggah slid from #9 to #40 with "The Violent Sleep Of Reason".
