Box Office: Spider-Man No Way Home blows away the competition

• This weekend the Australian box office made $30.43 million (mostly due to Spider-Man)

This weekend the Australian box office made $30.43 million, up a whopping 238% from last week’s $9.01 million.

Most of the traffic came as people flocked to see the latest in the Spiderman franchise, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

With Spider-Man's identity now revealed, Peter Parker asks for help from Doctor Strange. No Way Home delves deeper into the concept of the multiverse and ties the current Marvel Cinematic Universe to past Spider-Man films.

In its opening weekend, Spider-Man: No Way Home has pulled in a massive $26.12 million to take first spot.

Dropping out of the top five is Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch.

#1, Spider-Man: No Way Home, $26.12 million

Dwarfing the competition this week is the latest Marvel film starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. In its debut weekend, No Way Home averaged a huge $23,361 over 1,121 screens.

#2, Dune, $909,783

Being knocked off the top spot in its third week, Dune is the first of a two-part adaptation of the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert of the same name. This week it averaged $2,954 over 308 screens and has made a total of $11.24 million.

#3, Encanto, $769,843

Rising a spot from last week is the latest Disney film. the magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift – every child except Mirabel. In its third week, Encanto averaged $2,312 over 333 screens for a total of $4.31 million.

#4, No Time to Die, $585,676

The twenty-fifth film in the James Bond series, and the fifth and final appearance of Daniel Craig as the iconic spy averaged $2,122 across 276 screens this week. In six weeks the film has pulled in a whopping total of $32.76 million.

#5, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, $451,246

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has now made a total of $14.01 million in its fourth week. This week it averaged $1,535 across 294 screens.
