HBO has released the official trailer for season two of The Last of Us during a panel at South by Southwest (SXSW), featuring cast members Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, and Young Mazino, along with showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The second season, consisting of seven episodes, is set to premiere on Monday, 14 April, exclusively on Max, with new episodes airing weekly.

Story and cast details

Set five years after the first season, the new chapter follows Joel and Ellie as they navigate an increasingly hostile and unpredictable world. Pascal and Ramsey return as the lead characters, joined by Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, and Young Mazino as Jesse, among others. Catherine O’Hara will also appear as a guest star.

Production and industry impact

The series, based on the acclaimed The Last of Us video game by Naughty Dog, is produced in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producers include showrunners Mazin and Druckmann, alongside Carolyn Strauss and several others from PlayStation Productions and Naughty Dog. As one of HBO’s most high-profile adaptations, season two is expected to generate significant viewer interest, reinforcing the network’s investment in premium gaming-inspired content.

The seven-episode second season of HBO’s Emmy®-winning original drama series The Last of Us debuts Monday, 14 April, exclusively on Max.
