Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds wins big at the New York Festivals Awards

Old Peoples Home for 4 Year Olds

ABC's Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds has won big at the New York Festivals Awards for TV, Film and Radio.

The second season of the ABC factual series was the big winner when it was named the only Australian Grand Award winner at the prestigious event, which recognises the most innovative and entertaining screen content from more than 50 countries around the world.

The uplifting series, which demonstrates the physical and mental benefits of bringing together the very young and very old in a retirement home, was awarded the grand award in the social issues, documentary category and a gold award in the same category.

Jennifer Collins, ABC head of factual and culture, said of the win: "We are delighted to see the recognition of our content on the global stage, and particularly honoured to have Old People’s Home for 4 year olds awarded for its excellence.

"Congratulations to Endemol Shine Australia, and the whole team who delivered humour and heart via a group of 4 year olds as they improved the lives of our elderly. It's a series that has clearly resonated throughout the world," she added.

Other ABC programs that were recognised at the awards was Books that Made Us and Total Control season 2 were named gold award winners in the arts, documentary and drama, entertainment program categories.

ABC's three-part investigative series Exposed: The Ghost Train Fire was awarded gold for best editing.

The ABC iview “Don’t be Surprised” campaign was also awarded gold in the station promotion category.

The New York Festivals Radio Awards honoured ABC podcast Days Like These - Jaleh’s Drive for Freedom with a gold award in the personal lives podcast category and the ABC/CBC collaboration Stuff the British Stole was awarded gold in the culture & the arts, documentary category.

Zan Rowe’s Take 5 Podcast also came away with a Silver Award in the music podcast category.

New York Festivals Radio Awards honour radio content in all lengths and formats and across all platforms from radio stations, networks, and independent producers from around the globe.
