Stan has confirmed an early renewal for Outlander: Blood of my Blood, the new prequel series produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Season one is set to debut on 9 August, with new episodes dropping every Saturday exclusively on Stan in Australia.

Production for the second season will begin in June in Scotland, filmed on the same stages as the original Outlander series, which has been shooting there for the past decade.

Growing a global franchise in Australia

While positioned as an early renewal, industry observers will recognise this as a common production strategy.

Streamers and studios frequently commit to two seasons upfront to lock in talent, creative teams and production schedules, particularly for franchise expansions with a built-in global fanbase. This allows faster turnaround between seasons and signals confidence to distributors, partners and advertisers.

Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Cailah Scobie, framed the move as a reflection of the series' scale and international appeal.

"It's a rare opportunity to grow a globally loved franchise with a new story that stands entirely on its own," she said, noting the series' combination of romance, character drama, and a fresh cast.

A new angle on an established brand

Outlander: Blood of my Blood focuses on two parallel love stories, set in World War I and 18th-century Scotland, and introduces viewers to the origins of fan-favourite characters.

The prequel aims to appeal to new audiences while deepening the existing universe for loyal fans of the long-running Outlander series. It stars Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine, with Matthew B. Roberts returning as showrunner and executive producer alongside Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis.
