#1 Set in the 1980s, and featuring an ensemble cast, X-Men: Apocalypse has opened with $6.44m, which is the biggest weekend for any movie since Captain America: Civil War three weeks ago. It easily beat X-Men with $13.96m, but X-Men did record the fourth biggest opening of 2016. It opened on 574 screens with a screen average of $11,227. That is also the best screen average since Captain America.
#2 The second weekend of The Angry Birds Movie dipped 27% to $1.92m which was the second-best retention of any movie in the top 10 after The Man Who Knew Infinity at #10 which was down just 18% week-on-week. Angry Birds remains #2 on the chart with a screen average of $5,702. The movie has passed $5m total box office to-date.
#3 Dropping from top spot this week was Captain America: Civil War which spent three weeks at #1. The movie took $1.79m on the weekend and will pass $32m in its fifth week of release. The movie is down to 347 screens with a screen average just over $5,000.
#4 Bad Neighbours 2 was the fourth film to crack $1m or more this week with $1.07m and a total to-date of $6.40m. The screen average is just under $4,000.
#5 The Jungle Book could be spending its last week in the top five after its sixth week in cinemas with a weekend earn of $644,000. The movie should just make it past $30m with a gross to-date of $28.66m.

No other movie opened on wide release up against X-Men, although Sony Pictures' US comedy-drama The Meddler with Susan Sarandon, Rose Byrne and J. K. Simmons appeared on 17 screens to rank at #11 with the second best screen average of the week – $5,975.
Second best, that is, if we don't count the one screen showing Warren Miller's Chasing Shadows with $50,800.
