Design publication est living has announced the appointment of Karen McCartney to the newly created role of editorial strategy advisor for estliving.com, est magazine and digital platforms.

Known for her work in the world of interiors, architecture and design, Karen’s resume spans print and digital media. Formerly the editor of marie claire lifestyle and Inside Out magazine, Karen is the bestselling author of Perfect Imperfect, The Alchemy of Things, Super House, and Iconic: Modern Australian Houses 1950-2000.

Karen will work closely with est living managing director Miffy Coady and managing editor Sophie Lewis. “Karen is a content expert. I’ve enjoyed working with her over the past 12 months in an editorial consulting capacity. I have long admired her wealth of expertise and experience within the interiors and architectural category. Karen will be instrumental in driving our editorial vision for the business on a global level," Miffy says.

In her new role, Karen will advise on editorial strategy and direction across est living digital platforms, engaging more than 850,000 consumers every week. This will include the est quarterly digital magazine with a 43,500 subscriber base.

Karen says, “I am really delighted to be able to work with est Living in a more formal capacity. The past year formed a major part in the decision to take this next step. I am already an advocate of what est Living can do in terms of brand alliances and am a great admirer of Miffy and her strategic plans for the business. So, all in all, I am excited about what the future for est Living holds, and I am very keen to be a part of this next phase”.

The appointment further accelerates the editorial team expansion, including Sarah Knight's appointment as associate editor and the ever-expanding team of experienced and influential category contributors such as Stephen Crafti, Rachelle Unreich and Alexandra Gordon.
