The game kicked off with a bat toss from New South Wales premier Dominic Perrottet, and a fiery start ensued with a clear rivalry from both teams. Team Fitzy was up first to bat, with Albanese giving the team a strong start to the match and Aussie cricket legend Nathan Lyon also proving to be an important asset to the team.

It was Team Wippa’s turn to step up to bat next. With some big hits from Mark Ferguson and Ben Fordham, and with cricket icons Brett Lee and Stella Campbell also onboard, Team Wippa ultimately saw victory.

With 62 to win, Team Wippa passed the total with 1 wicket and 1 over in hand, with the final score being 62-61.

$15,000 was donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities Sydney, with a cheque presented to the charity following the match.

Fitzy said earlier today, “Fitzy & Wippa’s Backyard Cricket is back! I have a stellar team behind me including the prime minister himself, so Wippa is definitely in trouble this year.”

Wippa said, “We have luck on our side today, I can feel it! Even when you lose Fitzy, remember we’re raising money for a good cause.”

Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald and Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli have been waking up Sydneysiders for the past 11 years, building a loyal following of listeners.

The ACRA-nominated duo gained an additional 108,000 listeners across the past three radio ratings consecutive surveys. In the most recent survey, over 578,000 listeners tuned into the Fitzy & Wippa breakfast show each week, the show’s second highest cume to date.
