Gemma Jones has been appointed The Australian's national chief of staff. Jones has covered state and federal politics and covered the turbulent years of the Gillard-Rudd governments.

Jones has worked in Sydney, Canberra and New York for The Daily Telegraph where she was most recently chief of staff for the past two and a half years.

Jones replaces Petra Rees who has been appointed The Australian's deputy editor.
