Geoff Field to leave Sydney’s 2SER-FM after station restructure
• "It’s been a privilege to teach so many talented students"
Veteran journalist Geoff Field is departing Sydney’s 2SER-FM. He vacates the position of news director following a restructure of the station.
Several positions, including that of full-time news director, have been made redundant.
Commenting on his role as educator and mentor, Geoff Field said: “It’s been a privilege to teach so many talented students, not to mention being part of a radio station with such an important legacy in Sydney”.
Since joining 2SER-FM in 2017 Geoff has trained hundreds of journalism students from UTS and Macquarie University. In fact, 70 of them have gone on to obtain jobs in the media.
Also, two of his students (Zac de Silva and Dona Sirimanne) have won the prestigious Brian White Scholarship in successive years. Not to mention numerous others who were nominated as finalists.
He says he wishes everyone at 2SER-FM well. For now though, he is looking forward to sleeping-in after working breakfast radio for more than 25-years.
Geoff has a 40-year radio career, working with media luminaries like Ita Buttrose, Derryn Hinch, and Andrew Denton. Field is best known for his 18 year tenure at 2DAY-FM. He worked with Wendy Harmer, then in 2004 joined the Kyle & Jackie O Show. In 2010 he moved to the Hamish & Andy Show. He has received four ACRA nominations for Best Metropolitan Newsreader.
