Instagram + Facebook empower queer expression with Mardi Gras campaign

The 2020 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is officially here. As the city transforms into a kaleidoscope of colour and celebration of love, Instagram and Facebook are bringing together inspirational LGBTQ+ communities from around the country for this year’s campaign titled “Your Voice Matters”. 

Whilst the Mardi Gras parade itself is based in Sydney, Facebook will bring together the LGBTQ+ community by empowering queer expression and allowing people to create strong connections with likeminded people no matter where they’re located. 

This year, Facebook will paint the town rainbow and celebrate with Instagram creators and Facebook Group community members from across Australia. Adding a touch of sparkle to the “Your Voice Matters” float are teen trans creator and LGBTQ+ advocate @ajclementine_; queer crochet artist @chiliphilly and teen creator and dragqueen @alrighthey amongst others. 

Spotlighted LGBTQ+ Facebook groups include:

• Black Rainbow - Australia’s leading indigenous suicide prevention and mental health support source for LGBTQ+ people.
• LGBTQA Elders Australia – the group brings together, supports and promotes the interests and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ Elders across Australia who are approaching or have reached the age of 55 years and over.
• Trikone - The Page and private Group offer a supportive, empowering and non-judgmental environment, where gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender South Asians can meet, make connections, bond together and proudly promote awareness and acceptance of their sexuality in society.
