Alessandra Galloni, editor-in-chief of Reuters and the first woman to hold the role in the wire service's 175-year history, will deliver the 2026 Andrew Olle Media Lecture on 21 July at the ABC's Sydney studios.

"At a time of profound change for the media, it is important to reflect on the values that underpin trusted, independent journalism," Galloni said.

A panel discussion facilitated by Hamish Macdonald will follow, featuring Hugh Marks (ABC), Michael Miller (News Corp Australia), Jane Palfreyman (SBS), and Matt Stanton (Nine Entertainment).

But, as many eagle-eyed media watchers (or loyal Mediaweek readers) will know, the Reuters connection to the ABC runs deeper than the lecture.

Last week, Aunty announced it had appointed Simon Robinson, executive editor at Reuters, as its new director of news and current affairs. Robinson starts in September, replacing Justin Stevens, who resigned after four years in the role, citing personal and professional reasons.

The lecture will be broadcast on ABC News Channel and ABC iview.

All ticket proceeds go to Brain Cancer Australia.
