Kate de Brito is to join the Mamamia Women's Network as editor of the company's flagship site, mamamia.com.au.

Her appointment will take effect on October 5, and is the latest development in the company's growth and consolidation.

"Kate is a perfect fit for Mamamia," said co-founder and editorial director of MWN Mia Freedman. "She has serious news and opinion credentials – the things that are the foundation of Mamamia. We're growing the business, and having someone with Kate's flair and experience will position us brilliantly for the future."

De Brito was most recently head of digital for News Corporation’s editorial network. Previously she was news editor at news.com.au, during which time she helped take the site to number one for the first time.

De Brito has a 20-year career working across newspapers, magazines and online, in news, features and showbiz, in Australia and in New York.

"Mamamia has such a strong voice and understanding of what women are talking about every day," said de Brito.

"It really gets women – and digital – in a way a lot of media companies don't, and I'm looking forward to building on those strengths.

“We will continue setting the agenda when it comes to women’s issues and to offering readers depth – and heart – in their news."

De Brito is the latest in a group of appointments at MWN, among them the former editor of Women's Agenda Georgie Dent and the deputy editor of InStyle magazine Jacqueline Lunn.
