Cam Tyeson has departed 10 News after two-and-a-half years, with the digital and social media lead announcing a move to podcast company Pivotal Conversations.

In a LinkedIn post, Tyeson reflected on the demands of running social coverage for a major Australian newsroom, describing the role as “an extremely difficult labour of love”.

Tyeson said he had wrapped up at 10 News after overseeing coverage spanning local breaking news, major court cases and international politics.

“Leading coverage for the entire news spectrum - from fender benders in Adelaide, to mushroom murder trials in Melbourne, to Presidential election cycles in the US - at a major Australian news voice has been a tremendous privilege,” he wrote.

‘Under-resourced, often unheralded’

Tyeson also used the post to highlight the pressures facing social news teams, particularly during fast-moving breaking news events.

“I’ve a lot to say on this topic, but the TL;DR is that covering news for social is an extremely difficult labour of love,” he wrote.

“It’s under-resourced, often unheralded, and despite this frequently called on to be the front line in breaking news scenarios as events evolve second-to-second.”

Move to Pivotal Conversations

Tyeson confirmed he has joined Pivotal Conversations as Head of Digital & Social.

“For now, a change of pace: I’ve taken on a new role as Head of Digital & Social at Pivotal Conversations,” he wrote.

“Keen to rip in and welcome everyone to the pod.”
