The grand finale of Million Dollar Island will see 8 contestants out of the initial 100 compete for the crown on July 25 at 7:30 pm on Seven and 7plus.

In the second last episode of the series, Karla and Georgie were eliminated out and emotions ran high as the richest person on the island became the first finalist. One player also considered making the ultimate sacrifice to save a friend.

This season has seen one hundred everyday Aussies land on a remote desert island, each wearing a bracelet worth $10,000. They gain or lose bracelets by competing in games, forming alliances, scheming or stealing – all while trying to survive the harsh conditions with limited means.

To win their fortune, contestants must get it from someone else – and be willing to do whatever it takes.

Million Dollar Island is hosted by Ant Middleton and produced by award-winning Eureka Productions, who produced popular shows such as Seven’s Farmer Wants A Wife

Some interesting facts about the production of the show include:

• The players built their own shelters and organised their own meals by foraging on the island and utilising the limited supplies provided at the start of the series.

• There were no flushing or portable toilets, residents of each camp had to share pit latrines.

• The players were supported by a team of international paramedics, local doctors and first-aiders 24/7.

• The players learnt which plants or marine life to avoid, and which were edible during their stay on the island.

• The players had to navigate encounters with native wildlife including venomous snakes, macaques and wild boar.

• Filming took place on one of the 104 islands in the archipelago of Langkawi off the mainland coast of western Malaysia.

• The players split themselves into four camps – Log, Rock, Top and Vine.

• The players were only allowed to bring 10 kgs of luggage onto the island.

The Million Dollar Island finale premieres at 7:30 pm Tuesday, July 25 on Channel 7 and 7plus.
