Barons

New series Barons will premiere on Sunday, 24th April at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview, continuing the broadcaster's commitment to showcasing world-class Australian drama.

The eight-part drama will explore the hedonistic world of surfing and the cutthroat culture of entrepreneurship.

Set in 1971, at a time of sexual liberation and social change, Barons captures a unique moment of upheaval and opportunity as a new surfing counterculture and the spirit of enterprise collide.

Barons tells the story of a surf-crazed group of hippy friends who turn their backs on the world in search of their ideal patch of surfing paradise.

Little do they know that their desire for ultimate freedom and the perfect wave will take them from the beach to the boardroom, creating billion-dollar empires.

But in doing so, best friends are about to become bitter rivals.

Barons stars a fantastic ensemble cast of established and emerging young talent including Sean Keenan (Puberty Blues, Glitch) Ben O’Toole (Halifax: Retribution) Jillian Nguyen (Clickbait) Hunter Page-Lochard (Fires), George Pullar (Fighting Season), Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel), Sophia Forrest (Ride Like a Girl) and Vivienne Awosoga (Wentworth).

Also starring in the series is Nicholas Burton (Pieces of Her), Karina Banno (Reckoning), newcomer Megan Mackenzie, Kick Gurry (Edge of Tomorrow), Catherine Van-Davies (Hungry Ghosts), Alexander England (Offspring) and British-American actor Ione Skye (Arrested Development).

The premiere of Barons comes after ABC recently dropped crime-drama-thriller Troppo starring Nicole Chamoun, set in the wild tropics of Far North Queensland.

In the eight part series, she plays Amanda Pharrell, an ex-con-turned-private investigator with a dark past, who teams up with disgraced former cop Ted Conkaffey – played by American actor Thomas Jane. Together they investigate the mysterious disappearance of a Korean family man and tech pioneer in the small community.
