The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age readers will be among the first in the world to read chapter one from "Go Set a Watchman", the highly anticipated book by "To Kill a Mockingbird" author Harper Lee. Fifty-five years after "To Kill a Mockingbird" was published, Lee's newly discovered novel will hit bookstores in Australia on July 14 and is published by Penguin Random House, under the William Heinemann imprint.

The extract will be published on Fairfax websites  smh.com.au, theage.com.au, brisbanetimes.com.au, watoday.com.au and canberratimes.com.au today (Friday July 10) at 2.01pm, and in the Spectrum sections of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in an Australian print exclusive on Saturday July 11.

“We’re thrilled to have secured the rights to the first chapter of 'Go Set a Watchman' for Spectrum readers this Saturday, only three publishers globally have been selected to showcase the book to fans. The plot details have been closely guarded, and little is known about the story, so it’s exciting to be giving our readers a sneak peek of what happened next to Scout and Atticus Finch,” said Monique Farmer, national entertainment editor, Fairfax Media.
