BBC Three has bought the Australian drama Barracuda from NBCUniversal International Distribution. The 4x60 series will be available on BBC Three and on BBC Three’s iPlayer in the coming months.

Sue Deeks, head of grogram acquisition at the BBC, says: “Barracuda is a compelling, complex and emotional drama – beautifully filmed and performed.”

Damian Kavanagh, controller of BBC Three, adds: “BBC Three has a rich history in offering drama that covers issues that matter to young people. Barracuda fits that mould.”

Chris Oliver-Taylor, MD of Matchbox Pictures, says: "We are immensely proud of Barracuda. The series unearths some young, new and seriously superb acting talent and also sees some brilliant directing from Robert Connolly. This is the second collaboration between Tony Ayres, Christos Tsiolkas and the ABC (The Slap 2011) and it really shines on the screen.”
