Box Office: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 back on top

This weekend the Australian box office made $14.17 million, down 9% from last week’s $15.65 million.

$3,997 was averaged across 3,546 screens this weekend, up 101 screens from the week before as four of last weeks top five remain at the top.

Making its way back up to #1 from #3 last week is video game-inspired adventure film Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Directed by Jeff Fowler, the sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey and Ben Schwartz.

Falling one spot from first to second this week is action-adventure comedy The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe.

Also falling one spot from last week is Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, while animated crime comedy The Bad Guys remains steady at fourth.

Coming in at #5 in its first week at the box office is historical action drama The Northman starring, Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Ethan Hawke.

Dropping out of the top five this week Indian period action film K.G.F: Chapter 2 (Hindi) which has grossed a total of $2.27 million to date.

#1 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – $2.89 million

Back at the top this weekend, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 averaged $7,249 across 399 screens. The film has grossed a total of $17.6 million.

#2 The Lost City - $2.89 million

Starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt, The Lost City has dropped to #2 this week, averaging $7,281 across 397 screens. In two weeks the film has brought in a total of $9.3 million.

#3 Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore– $2.27 million

The latest instalment in the Harry Potter universe averaged $5,396 across 422 screens, grossing over $14 million to date.

#4 The Bad Guys – $2.09 million

Animated crime comedy, The Bad Guys averaged $5,901 over 355 screens this weekend, making a total of $11.79 million to date.

#5 The Northman - $1.14 million

In its debut week, The Northman averaged $4,695 across 244 screens.
