Box Office: The Lost City wins #1 spot

This weekend the Australian box office made $15.73 million, up 15% from last week’s $13.63 million.

$4,580 was averaged across 3,434 screens this weekend, down 15 screens from the week before as two of the top five films are new entries to the top of the box office.

Making its way to #1 this week is action-adventure comedy The Lost City. The film stars Sandra Bullock as a novelist and Channing Tatum as her cover model who must escape a billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) and find the lost ancient city depicted in one of her books.

Falling one spot from first to second this week is the latest instalment in the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, while Sonic the Hedgehog 2 drops from second to third.

Indian period action film K.G.F: Chapter 2 (Hindi) makes its way to fourth place in its first week at the box office. The film is the second instalment in a two-part series, the sequel to the 2018 film K.G.F: Chapter 1.

Dropping out of the top five this week is Morbius and The Batman which remained in the top five for six weeks and has grossed a total of $37.15 million to date.

#1 The Lost City - $3.37 million

Starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe and Brad Pitt, The Lost City has raced to #1 in its debut week, averaging $7,831 across 431 screens.

#2 Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore - $3.25 million

In its second week on screens, the prequel to the Harry Potter series averaged $6,328 across 515 screens.

#3 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - $2.59 million

Sequel to the popular 2020 film Sonic The Hedgehog, the second film in the franchise averaged $5,973 over 435 screens this weekend, down 9 from the week before.

#4 The Bad Guys - $1.68 million

Animated crime comedy, The Bad Guys averaged $4,632 over 363 screens this weekend, making a total of $7.93 million to date.

#5 K.G.F: Chapter 2 (Hindi) - $1.55 million

In its debut week, the sequel to Chapter One averaged $15,826 across 98 screens. The film is the most expensive Kannada film to date.
