The highest-rating non-sports show in the US chart was CBS’s The Big Bang Theory – episode 2 of its 11th season. However, in the popular 18-49 demographic, episode 2 of the second season of NBC’s This Is Us beat it by a narrow margin.

Episode 2 of The Good Doctor was the highest-rating show of the week for the ABC network, due to be screened in Australia by Seven later this month. The week ending 8 October was the second week of the US Fall ratings season and ABC broadcast season premieres of some other popular shows that are shown locally, none of which made the top 20 - they all made the top 25 in the 18-49 demo. They included the sitcoms The Middle, Black-ish and Fresh Off The Boat and the seventh and final season of Shonda Rhimes’ Thursday night mainstay Scandal.
