Melbourne Cup pulls Seven a peak audience of 2.95m

Seven’s digital channels including PLUS7 Live had more than 575,000 streams across the day

Seven’s live coverage of the Melbourne Cup has drawn massive TV audiences around the country, reaching nearly four million people, with the great race delivering a combined metro and regional average of 2.801 million viewers, peaking at 2.955 million viewers.

Seven’s digital channels including PLUS7 Live had more than 575,000 streams across the day, up 18% on Cup Day in 2015.

The TV audience in metro areas for the race averaged 1.986 million viewers and peaked at 2.085 million viewers, while the share was a massive 87.5 per cent, as Almandin crossed the line first with Kerrin McEvoy aboard for owner Lloyd Williams.

In individual TV markets, the audiences were also outstanding. In Melbourne, an average audience of 947,000 viewers watched the race, with the Melbourne audience peaking at 976,000.

These TV ratings do not take into account out-of-home viewing in pubs/clubs and offices.
