Nine appoints Ian De Vlieger as director of enterprise technology services

Nine states the appointment will be instrumental leading into the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Nine has appointed Ian De Vlieger as director of enterprise technology services, joining Nine's technology leadership team and reporting to chief information and technology officer, Memo Hayek. 

De Vliger will undertake a strategic role at Nine, using his two decades of industry experience to oversee responsibility for its IT service management, digital workplace/end-user compute, and applications support teams. 

Nine states the appointment will be instrumental in driving the convergence of their technology and business objectives for audiences, partners and employees leading into the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. 

Prior to joining Nine, De Vlieger held senior IT roles at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Coca-Cola Amatil, Ausgrid, Wesfarmers, and Qantas. 

Hayek said that De Vlieger is an exceptional leader with proven success in leadership.

"His expertise has been honed in dynamic IT environments across aviation, energy, FMCG and managed services, and he brings a customer-first approach to developing and implementing IT strategies that will be invaluable at Nine."

On his new role, De Vlieger said: "I look forward to working with the technology teams and the broader business to deliver innovative digital solutions for our customers."

De Vlieger commences his new role today. 

The news of Nine's new appointment comes as the media company's profits fell 21% in the six months ending 31 December 2023. 

Against the previous year, Nine’s interim results showed revenue dropped 2% to $1.4bn, net profit fell 21% (after tax, net profit after tax and minorities fell 27%) to $149.5m, and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) was down by 15% to $316m. 

CEO Mike Sneesby pointed to the subscription businesses as the half’s success story: “Notwithstanding the impact of challenging economic conditions on the broader advertising market, the breadth of Nine’s business underpinned some key operational highlights across the half. I am particularly pleased with the performance of our subscription businesses.”
