TV Guide: 2025 State of Origin Game II

The broadcaster says its approach to Origin II is built on enhancing discoverability and retention.

Channel 9 will broadcast Game II of the 2025 Ampol State of Origin series live and free on both Channel 9HD and 9Now on Wednesday, 18 June, from 7:00pm AEST.

The match sees the Queensland Maroons fighting to stay in the series against the New South Wales Blues, who are eyeing back-to-back titles.

But beyond the clash on the field, Nine is sharpening its broadcast and digital offering with new camera angles, exclusive content, and companion programming designed to boost viewer engagement across platforms.

'Total TV' strategy

Game II will be held at Perth’s Optus Stadium, providing a western backdrop for one of the game’s fiercest rivalries.

The core live coverage will be hosted by James Bracey and supported by a who’s who of rugby league icons including Andrew Johns, Cameron Smith, Brad Fittler, Phil Gould, and Johnathan Thurston. Commentary will come from Mathew Thompson, Johns, and Smith.

Live crosses to coaches Billy Slater and Laurie Daley during the match will add real-time insight, while sideline reporting from Danika Mason, Emma Lawrence, and Allana Ferguson builds a layer of in-the-moment analysis.

Innovation and exploration

The broadcaster says its approach to Origin II is built on enhancing discoverability and retention.

New camera innovations available via the 9Now app, such as Player Cams for Jarome Luai and Cameron Munster, and a dedicated Spider Cam feed, position 9Now not just as a catch-up hub, but as a second-screen experience designed to complement the live broadcast.

The exclusive in-app will feature a range of additional material, include post-match 20-minute "Mini Match" recaps.

Programming build-up

Nine's commitment to Origin content spans well beyond match day.

In the lead-up to Game II, the network will be rolling out a suite of programming to bolster anticipation  around the core event:

• 100% Footy (June 16) airs from Optus Stadium with Cameron Munster, Laurie Daley, and commentary from Phil Gould and Paul Gallen.

• Freddy and The Eighth (June 17) sees Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns joined by Mitchell Johnson and podcast duo Tom and Eddy.

• Queenslander delivers a Maroons-centric preview with Darren Lockyer and Wally Lewis, available via 9Now and YouTube.

• The Billy Slater Podcast and Stories of Origin deepen emotional engagement through storytelling and behind-the-scenes access.

WWOS.nine.com.au will serve as the central hub for live blogs, expert commentary, match centres, and player ratings.
