Melbourne Radio Ratings 2023, Survey 3: Ross and Russ dominate on 3AW

KIIS and Nova tie for the second survey in a row

Despite a dip in share, Nine’s 3AW continues its strong run, topping the Melbourne market with a 15.3% share. In breakfast, Ross and Russel dipped 1.6% – the same amount as last survey – but that drop did nothing to dent their lead with a 19.5% share. It was a similar story in Drive, with Tom Elliott keeping a market leading share of 11.1% despite a slide of 0.5 points. The station’s biggest (and only) lift came from the Afternoon slot, held by Dee Dee Dunleavy who announced her departure on Monday – up 0.9%. The station continues to dominate in the 55-64 and 65+ demos, with a share of 21.4% and 33.7% respectively.

After Gold’s best start to the year in recent Melbourne radio ratings memory in survey one, the ARN station has recorded a slight drop of 0.5 points for a total share of 11.5%. The Christian O’Connell Show remains strong as Melbourne’s top FM breakfast – and one of two breakfast shows to record a double digit share – for a 24th consecutive radio ratings survey, with a share of 10.8% after a dip of 0.3%. Gold holds strong as the leader in the 40-54 demo with a 14.1% share.

After jumping from fourth to third last survey, smoothfm 91.5 has held its position, staying steady with a 9.7% share. smoothfm breakfast, now just with Mike Perso, lifted 0.7 to 8.5%. The station lifted in every day part except Afternoons and Weekends, with Drive climbing 0.4 points for a 9.5% share. The station’s strongest demo has swapped from 18-24 to 55-64 this survey, with the latter recording a 13.8% share.

Fox has come in fourth overall despite a dip of 0.5%, with a total share of 8.8%. Newly crowned world record holders Fifi, Fev and Nick have dipped 0.8 points for a 9.5% share after cracking double figures in breakfast last survey. In Drive, Carrie and Tommy have finally pipped Gold FM, coming in with a 10.0% share after a dip of 0.1%.

Fox is the leader in the 10-17, 18-24, and 25-39 demos, with respective shares of 15.1%, 14.5%, and 15.0%.

It’s been a big year for KIIS 101.1. After the station’s best survey one result in recent memory, KIIS stayed largely steady with a dip of 0.1 in survey two, and has now lifted another 0.8 points in survey three – tying with Nova for the second survey in a row on 7.3%. Breakfast with Jase and Lauren dipped 0.1 points for a 7.1% share. On Drive, Will and Woody were down 0.3 points for a total share of 7.9%.

A lift of 0.8 points has seen Nova tie with KIIS on 7.3%. On breakfast, Ben, Liam and Belle recorded a slight dip of 0.4 points, bringing them to 6.7%. The station high is 9.3% in drive where Ricki-Lee, Tim and Joel are sitting on 8.4% after a 1.3 point lift. 

Nova was up in every daypart except breakfast, and lifted most in the Afternoons, up 1.6 points.

Triple M has dipped 0.8 points to come in with a 5.3% share. It was the same story on Breakfast, with Marty Sheargold losing 0.5 points, dipping back under the 5% mark with a 4.7% share. The biggest demographic lift came from 65+, where the station was up 1.1 points.

Continuing to climb, SEN was up 0.4 for a 2.8% share. Breakfast was up 0.5 points, bringing in a 2.9% share, whilst the best performer was Evenings with 3.5%. The station was up in all dayparts and has lifted or stayed steady in all demos except 18-24.

Up 0.4 points, Magic 1278 has recorded a station share of 1.6%. Breakfast has lifted 0.2%, up to a share of 0.7%. At the other end of the day, Drive sits on 2.0%.

3MP was down 0.2 points this survey, with a 10+ share of 1.4%. A lift of 0.1 saw Breakfast coming in with 0.8%. Weekends are the station's high point, with a 1.8% share.

A dip in cume and 10+ share dip of 0.1 points saw RSN come in with a share of 0.6%. The station performed best in the 65+ demo, with a 0.9% share.
