Brisbane’s 4BC has announced that Peter Gleeson will be jumping behind the mic on Drive after the departure of Neil Breen on June 23. The position will not be permanent, however, with Gleeson acting in a caretaker role.

Confirming the news on Thursday, 4BC content manager Max Dudley sent an email to staff to say that Gleeson will begin on Monday, June 26th, and that “An announcement on a permanent 4BC Drive host will be made later in the year.”

Previously a Sky News presenter and Courier-Mail columnist, Gleeson left News Corp in November last year after being found to have plagiarised several columns. At the time, Gleeson said that “I apologise for breaching News Corp’s Code of Conduct and instances where I have not met the standards required.”

Neil Breen leaves his Drive show on a 5.8% share in the Brisbane market, having announced that he would be leaving the station last month.

“It was a very tough time because of Covid and all the rules, it was very difficult to get my family here,” he said at the time, explaining his decision.

“It’s taken its toll and I’ve told the bosses at Channel Nine I’m going to resign from 4BC radio.

“It’s very sad for me and I think it’s going to be quite upsetting for a lot of the listeners.

“Please don’t think I take it for granted, I see your emails and I hear the phone calls and I get the texts and I know you enjoy the show.

“I’ve given you three of the best years I can possibly give to you but it’s time for me to give many, many more years than that to my family and be with them seven days a week.”
