Following the conviction of Erin Patterson for three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, the Seven Network will air two dedicated programs examining the case.

The first, a special bulletin on the 7NEWS mushroom trial, will go to air tonight at 8.40pm on Seven and 7plus.

It will be followed by an extended 7NEWS Spotlight investigation airing Sunday 14 July at 8.30pm.

Both specials aim to provide context, legal analysis, and a psychological profile of Patterson, whose conviction has prompted widespread public interest.

The decision to air the special just mere hours after the verdict, affords the network a head start in the predicted onslaught of content relating to the case.

Sunday Spotlight to feature legal and forensic analysis

The Spotlight special will focus on key questions raised during the trial, including Patterson’s possible motives, her actions before and after the fatal lunch, and the broader implications of the case.

The panel includes criminal barrister Geoffrey Watson SC, forensic psychologist Peter Ashkar, former detective Damian Marrett, and 7NEWS reporter Tita Smith, who has followed the case closely since it broke.

The program also includes insight from a detective involved in one of the world’s only other known mushroom-related murder cases.

“Now she’s been found guilty, we will be using the full weight of our expert panel to investigate how this
unassuming mother became one of this country' worst murderers,” said 7NEWS Spotlight host Michael Usher.
