The ninth annual Shine Awards, presented by Harvey Norman and The Weekly Times, have officially launched, recognising the often-unheralded contributions of rural and regional women across Australia.

Last year’s overall winner, Danny Mason-Kinder, said the accolade helped amplify the reach of her children’s charity, the b kinder foundation.

“Winning the Shine Awards last year was an incredible honour and a truly transformative experience.

“To be recognised alongside so many inspiring Australians was both humbling and empowering. The Shine Awards didn’t just celebrate my story, it amplified it, opening doors to new opportunities.

“We’ve seen a wonderful increase in awareness and credibility, mainly because both News Corp Australia and The Weekly Times have continued to share our story. One of the most exciting outcomes has been securing a partnership with Harvey Norman. Their support has been a game changer.”

Penny Fowler, News Corp Australia community ambassador and Herald & Weekly Times chairman, credited Harvey Norman CEO Katie Page for the long-running partnership that has been central to the program’s success.

“Since we started the awards in 2017 it’s been our privilege to bring to life the incredible and inspiring stories of more than a thousand women from across the nation,” Penny said.

“The Shine Awards celebrate women who are all working to change things for the better and who make a real and lasting difference to their communities - their stories are always amazing. This reflects our company’s belief in creating positive change through our journalism and story telling.”

The Shine Awards honour women in six categories – Belief, Courage, Dedication, Grace, Passion and Spirit – plus a Youth Award for women under 30 demonstrating leadership potential. Each category and Youth Award winner will receive a $2,500 Harvey Norman voucher, while the overall winner will receive $5,000.

Coverage will culminate in a 32-page Shine magazine published in The Weekly Times and The Australian on 26 November 2025, featuring stories of all category finalists and announcing the winners.

Nominations are now open via shineawards.com.au.
