Triple M Rocks Footy 1200x600

With AFL and football finals just days away, Triple M head of content Mike Fitzpatrick reminded Mediaweek of the station’s dominance in both codes in the major radio markets.

“In Melbourne we still have the #1 FM breakfast show and in Sydney the #1 commercial FM station for men and both football calls are doing extremely well. The Triple M AFL call in Melbourne is #1 with 337,000 listening across the weekend compared to 280,000 on 3AW. Share wise over those AFL sessions we are on 8.4% to 3AW’s 8.3%.” He noted that when talking about the 3AW AFL call, he likens it to listening to radio in black and white.

“In terms of NRL in Sydney, Triple M reaches more people under 70 than any other commercial NRL call.”

Overall Fitzpatrick noted Triple M had good results in both Brisbane and Adelaide. “We made a couple of changes in Brisbane and retooled the music. The station is #1 breakfast for men 18+ and the #1 station for men 25+.

“Adelaide remains a great story. We were equal #1 earlier this year, dropped and then bounced back again. [Adelaide content director] Matt O’Reilly has worked very hard to bring it back. It also helps when the Crows are doing so well and to have a Crow’s legend [Mark Ricciuto] on the breakfast show.”
