The list is weighted and includes global streams combined with other signals like Follows, Saves and more.

Alicia Sbrugnera, Spotify Australia head of music, said: "The Australian music industry is now bigger than it ever has been, thanks to streaming.

"In an age of an emerging borderless music industry, this list is a fantastic snapshot of local artists having a big impact on the world stage and comes as Australia looks to become a net exporter of music."

Sbrugnera added. "Last year Australian artists generated close to 80% of their royalties from outside of Australia!"

Spotify recently released its annual report, Loud & Clear, to increase transparency in the music industry by sharing data on Spotify’s royalty payments and breaking down the global streaming economy, the players and the process.

The report revealed that in 2022, revenues generated by Australian artists from Spotify alone reached nearly 250,000,000 AUD.

This figure represents revenue generated from Spotify alone, and does not take into account earnings from other services and recorded revenue streams, concert tickets or merchandise.

Spotify’s global reach of over 515million across 184 markets means there’s more opportunity than ever for music to cross borders and for artists to find fans. In 2022, of Australian artists’ Spotify royalties were generated by fans outside of Australia.
