Made Up Stories, the production company founded by Bruna Papandrea and behind hits like Nine Perfect Strangers and Strife, has announced its next major adaptation: a series based on Sally Hepworth’s New York Times bestseller, The Soulmate.

Unveiled at Australians in Film’s Future Vision summit on Wednesday, the project sees Made Up Stories team with award-winning producer Imogen Banks (Offspring, Fake) and actor-producer Asher Keddie (Strife, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart), alongside writer and showrunner Fiona Seres (Tangle, The Great).

Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Katie Amos will executive produce for Made Up Stories, joined by Banks for Kindling Pictures, Keddie, Hepworth, Rob Weisbach and Seres.

The Soulmate

The Soulmate centres on Pippa and Gabe, a seemingly perfect couple whose idyllic cliff-side home becomes the setting for a growing mystery involving suicide prevention, community secrets, and one fateful death. The novel was named one of the year’s best thrillers by The New York Times.

“What a privilege to partner again with the incomparable Sally Hepworth for The Soulmate,” Made Up Stories said in a statement. “We are absolutely thrilled to develop this captivating adaptation of The Soulmate with the wildly talented Fiona Seres, and cannot wait to bring this enthralling interrogation of love’s complexities to audiences.”

Hepworth, whose books have sold millions globally, called the collaboration “magic,” adding: “I’m so excited to be collaborating with... Imogen, Asher, Rob and Fiona, to adapt The Soulmate - a novel that strives to dig deep into the layered, complicated truths about marriage, loyalty, and the secrets we keep from the people we love most.”

This marks Hepworth’s second collaboration with Made Up Stories, following the previously announced adaptation of her novel Darling Girls.

Made Up Stories

Made Up Stories has become a global production force with a string of hits across platforms including Amazon, Hulu and Binge. In the past six months, the company launched second seasons of Nine Perfect Strangers and Strife, and is currently in production on The Good Daughter for Peacock.

Kindling Pictures, founded by Banks in 2021, focuses on bold, local storytelling and has produced series such as Fake and Safe Home. Keddie continues to build her producer-actor profile, following recent turns in Plum and Fake.

The Soulmate adaptation does not yet have a release date or broadcaster attached.
