Dirty Grandpa keeps sleaze #1 as Zoolander 2 previews just miss second spot

The second weekend of the Robert De Niro and Zac Efron sleaze-fest Dirty Grandpa has again defied the critics and maintained top spot at the box office. The movie added just on $1.5m as its total take passed $4.6m and should go close to reaching $6m this time next week. The movie had a weekend screen average of $6,518.

The only screen average better than that for a film in wide release was the weekend previews of Zoolander 2. With sneak peeks on 125 screens, Zoolander 2 took $922,000 at $7,382 per screen which ranked it #3.

Zoolander 2 only trailed the fifth weekend of The Revenant by $150,000 with the Leo DiCaprio tale of survival taking just over $1m as its total haul closes in on $18m keeping it in second place.

Rounding out the top five was the second weekend of Spotlight with $762,000 at #4 and the eighth weekend of Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $754,000 as it closes in on $92m.

The US romantic drama The Choice starring Aussie actress Teresa Palmer debuted at #7 with $602,000 on 205 screens.

The only other major new release on the weekend was Danny Boyle's biopic Steve Jobs, with Michael Fassbender in the lead role, which took $267,000 from 60 screens.
