Mark Burrows has been named presenter of 9News Sydney's Friday and Saturday 6:00 pm bulletins, taking over from Georgie Gardner, who anchored the weekend bulletin for 17 years.

Burrows brings more than four decades of frontline reporting experience to the role, having covered some of the most significant local and international stories of his generation - from the Bondi Westfield attack to the Romanian Revolution, the death of Princess Diana, the Iraq War, the Bali bombings, the Sydney Olympics, and the wars in Afghanistan and Ukraine.

His career has earned major industry recognition, including a Logie for his coverage of the Romanian Revolution and a Walkley Award for reporting on the Interlaken canyoning disaster in Switzerland.

He was also central to the Nine Network's award-winning coverage of the 2002 Bali bombings.

Gardner, who joined the weekend bulletin in 2008, became one of the most recognised faces in Australian television news before departing the role.

Burrows steps in as her successor, joining 9News Sydney presenters Peter Overton and Deborah Knight on the weekend desk.

He will also continue to file stories for the network as a Senior Correspondent.

Trusted Voice

Michael Best, Director of 9News Sydney, said Burrows was among the most credible journalists in the country.

"Mark is one of the most trusted and experienced journalists in the country. He has reported from the front lines and has an extraordinary ability to connect with viewers through clarity, credibility, and calm. We are thrilled to have him presenting 9News Sydney's Friday and Saturday 6 pm bulletins," said Best.

Burrows said he was honoured to take on the presenting role after a long career in the field.

"After so many years reporting for Channel 9, it's a deep privilege to step into this role and continue bringing Sydney viewers the stories that matter. 9News has always been about trust, accuracy, and connection with the audience, and I'm looking forward to continuing that tradition," he said.
