Australian Idol will return to Seven and 7plus on Monday, 2 February, kicking off the show’s fourth season.

Seven is teasing a tougher year ahead for judges Marcia Hines, Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands, with auditions set to spotlight big voices and bigger backstories.

When does Australian Idol return?

Australian Idol starts Monday, 2 February on Seven and 7plus, with a preview available via 7 Screening Room.

Charlie Moon’s audition leads the 2026 return

Among the first auditions being promoted is Charlie Moon, a 31-year-old singer from Perth known for his signature glasses and bright beanie.

Moon told the show his musical foundations were shaped by his parents and artists including Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye.

For his audition, he performs Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’, which he says is closely tied to his late mother.

“I think of my mum when I sing this song,” Moon said. “Unfortunately, my mum passed away; I was her full-time carer.”

He also spoke about the time he spent looking after her before she died from brain cancer.

“I wouldn’t trade the sacrifice I made for anything because I got to spend more time with my mum,” he said.

“No one loves you like your mum does,” Moon added.

What to expect this season

Seven said the new season will feature “powerful performances” and “emotional journeys” as the judges search for an Idol with talent, presence, and star quality.

Australian Idol premieres Monday, 2 February on Seven and 7plus.
