Following a nationwide search to replace longtime film reviewer Marc Fennell, triple j has announced 22-year-old Amelia Navascues will fill the slot.

Fennell announced he was stepping down from the role three weeks ago. Since then, more than 1,300 people registered their interest in the role by submitting tips on the best TV, film and web series they’d been binge watching.

Speaking on Mediaweek's Seven Days podcast last week, Fennell said of his departure: “I was of the belief that that is a job for a 21-year-old, not a 31-year-old. I think people should learn to leave triple j gracefully."

Amelia loves cringe comedy and would like Adam Sandler to play her in the movie about her life. She’s not adverse to a tear jerker either, admitting she’s cried watching a health insurance ad, claiming the tight scripts, compelling narratives and good cinematography were of film quality.
