Episode Nine of Dessert Masters saw two contestants eliminated leaving only three contestants left to battle it out in the grand final.

The Dessert Masters Grand Final premieres at 7:30 pm on November 28 on 10 and 10 Play.

The second last episode of the season saw the remaining contestants tasked with taking inspiration from the forest and bring the judges a sweet dish inspired by nature in just three hours.

Reynold chose to create a chocolate log in a rainforest but knew his biggest challenge would be balancing the fragrant flavours he was working with. At judging, Amaury thought Reynold hit the visual and flavour brief.

Jess' build concept was a realistic-looking bonsai tree with flavours that reflected the Japanese theme: matcha, yuzu and black sesame. The judges complimented the light sponge and the texture contrast with the black sesame and the yuzu mousse.

Gareth chose to create a riverbed scene with stones, twigs and soil. Taking a risk, he used two savoury ingredients, truffle and Jerusalem artichoke. Amaury was not sold on the flavours but Gareth was confident his sweet elements would offset the earthiness. Amaury liked the dish's visual impact, but both he and Mel felt it was very savoury.

Kay-Lene made a dish inspired by the changing seasons playing on the imagery of white snow melting away. Amaury thought the dish was beautifully crafted, but looked and tasted dry, leading to her elimination from the competition.

Kirsten planned her most ambitious dish yet with a chocolate and passionfruit entremet surrounded by a chocolate birdcage sculpture. Unfortunately, the birdcage she assembled collapsed before her eyes with only two minutes to go. Upon tasting, the judges complimented her perfect glaze and neat layers. However, the entremet without the birdcage was not enough, leading her to be eliminated also.
