Viewers will see drama, intrigue and rivalry take place on Million Dollar Island, Seven’s new social experiment show premiering at 7:00 pm Monday, 12 June on Channel Seven and 7plus.

One hundred everyday Aussies land on a remote desert island, each wearing a bracelet worth $10,000. They gain or lose bracelets by competing in games, forming alliances, scheming or stealing – all while trying to survive the harsh conditions with limited means.

To win their fortune, contestants must get it from someone else – and be willing to do whatever it takes. Stealing, deception and disorder quickly become the rules of engagement.

Nurses, farmers, real estate agents, parents, retail workers and more will leave the world behind as they scheme and fight for the $1 million prize.

Million Dollar Island is hosted by Ant Middleton and produced by award-winning Eureka Productions, who produced popular shows such as Seven’s Farmer Wants A Wife

In preparation for the premiere on Monday night, Seven has revealed some interesting facts regarding the production of the show:

The players built their own shelters and organised their own meals by foraging on the island and utilising the limited supplies provided at the start of the series.

There were no flushing or portable toilets, residents of each camp had to share pit latrines.

• The players were supported by a team of international paramedics, local doctors and first-aiders 24/7.

• The players learnt which plants or marine life to avoid, and which were edible during their stay on the island.

The players had to navigate encounters with native wildlife including venomous snakes, macaques and wild boar.

• Filming took place on one of the 104 islands in the archipelago of Langkawi off the mainland coast of western Malaysia.

• The players split themselves into four camps – Log, Rock, Top and Vine.

• The players were only allowed to bring 10 kgs of luggage onto the island.
