'WTF?': Kochie slams Logie Awards nominations 'snubs'

'Have the Logies become a participation award?'

Veteran Sunrise host David 'Kochie' Koch has posted his outrage about his former Seven colleagues not receiving Logie Awards nominations this year.

Koch left the breakfast show in 2023, but his heart clearly remains with it, as he noted its current hosts - Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington - missed out on nominations in the Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter and Best Current Affairs Program categories, whilst Nine's Today's hosts were acknowledged.

The former Sunrise host made his feelings public on Instagram on Monday night.

“Have the Logies become a participation award?” he asked in one Instagram story.

“Once again ignoring the domination of breakfast by Sunrise.”

In a second story, he wrote, “Now you are really taking the p**s. A program that has lost ratings for 20 consecutive years is nominated when Sunrise isn’t.”

In a post to his Instagram grid, Koch continued:

"So let me get this straight … Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter nominees for this year’s Logies contains both TODAY hosts but neither Sunrise hosts.

"A couple of facts you may have missed;
. Sunrise has won every single day this year.
. Sunrise is averaging 424,000 viewers daily (+4% you) while Today is averaging 308,000 (-3% yoy).

"This has been going on for years. If you ever complain you’re seen as a bad sport.

"But now I’m out of it I can say @tvweeklogiesawards @tvweekmag honestly WTF?"

The post was liked almost 1000 times, and attracted more than 160 comments of support.

Kochie slams Logies nominations for breakfast shows

Koch is specifically referring to the recent nominations for the Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter category, where both Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo are nominated.

Others in the category include Nine's Ally Langdon, ABC’s David Speers and Sarah Ferguson, and Seven’s Michael Usher.

Koch was an extremely popular fixture on Australian breakfast television for more than 20 years, until he resigned in 2023 to pursue other interests.
